On Wednesday 8 January 2025, Associate Professor Prasopchai Patrojanasophon, Ph.D., Vice President for Research; Assistant Professor Boonnada Pamornpathomkul, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Research; Dr. Parinya Roonpho, Assistant to the President for International Affairs; Associate Professor Apiradee Kasemsook, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Architecture; Assistant Professor Damrongphon Inchan, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology; Associate Professor Warangkana Nibhatsukit, Ph.D, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, along with executives from the Faculty of Arts; Professor Pornsak Sriamornsak, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; and Assistant Professor Nathaporn Karnjanapoomi, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, extended a warm welcome to Prof. James Robson, Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute, and Prof. Michael Herzfeld, Ernest E. Monrad Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus, Department of Anthropology, Harvard University, USA. The welcoming ceremony took place at Conference Room 401, 4th Floor, Office of the President, Taling Chan Campus, during their visit to Silpakorn University to promote the institute and its scholarship programs.
The Harvard-Yenching Institute was established in 1928 as an independent foundation dedicated to advancing higher education in Asia, with a particular focus on the study of Asian cultures. Its primary activities include awarding scholarships for international studies and research to doctoral and postdoctoral scholars from leading universities in East and Southeast Asia in various fields of humanities and social sciences. To date, more than 1,000 faculty members from Asia have received scholarships from the institute, and over 300 doctoral students have completed their studies with the institute’s support.
